Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited (KPLC) initiated the Energy Supply and Efficiency Improvements Project. As part of the project consultants have been engaged to study 13 sub-projects for potential development, reinforcement and expansion of the 132/33kV grid network of KPLC. This project is for Assignment I, which includes four of the 13 subprojects. Included within the Phase 1 scope of work was an assessment of the potential of developing any of the four sub-projects as a CDM project. The scope included an assessment of compliance with CDM eligibility criteria, identification of existing T&D project types, key barriers and significant issues for T&D CDM projects and suggested measures to address these barriers, and a high level estimate of the quantity of CERs that could be generated on a per MWh saved basis.
